Under 30 v Bedfordshire

HBA U30 v Beds – 13th May 2007 @ Maulden BC

Hertfordshire BA [ECL Junior champions 2005] team lost their first league match against Bedfordshire [ECL Junior Champions 2006].

Beds fielded a very strong team despite losing Tom Cawdell who was playing a cup final and could not attend. The weather was not too kind for the start of the season and to say the lads got drenched is an understatement. No 8’s dropped this season so we have made some improvement in this match from last year. The match started well and after 7 ends was close with two of our rinks skipped by Stewart Brown and David Oliver looking like they were in control. After 14 ends however, we were down on all rinks and despite attempts to keep pace with the Beds lads we finished up losing on all 3 rinks. Herts lads can have no complaints as they were out bowled on the day. Well done to the Beds lads!!

Last years champions and a great start to the 2007 season. Hertfordshire were disappointed with this result but there is still plenty to play for in the league under the points system.

Not quite the expected start in the league for Hertfordshire but once again some great experience for some of our younger players. Well done to Bradley Prowle Datchworth BC and Simon Burgess Harpenden BC who played their first league matches for Hertfordshire. It was also nice to see Tom Cawdell drop in at the end of the match to see if he had kept his place in the Beds team. Only time will tell!! Both Tom Cawdell and Matthew Coppen have been selected for England trials later this month and were congratulated on their achievement and given best wishes from all in attendance.
